Visit to MMHA

The Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA) is a non-profit non-government organisation. It is managed by an elected committee of interested persons and professionals in the community, including caregivers of persons living with mental disorders. MMHA promotes mental well-being in the community and support for people with mental health issues and their caregivers through support service provision, education, training, research, and advocacy.

On 19th November 2023 MMHA officiated the Opening Ceremony of their Guest House and Wellness and Recovery Programme. IWCKL have been supporting MMHA for many years. The kitchen cabinets and oven in their headquarters were donated by IWCKL. In June 2023, IWCKL presented a cheque for $15,000 to MMHA as well as a painting. Now the wall in the reception area of the newly completed Guest House is adorned with the painting.

7 Members including President Rani Gummit together with her spouse and son attended the Opening Ceremony. Breakfast and lunch were served. The nasi lemak, fried meehon, fried chicken and Nyonya kueh to name a few delicacies - were absolutely delicious. The IWCKL Members stood out in the crowd as they donned their red jackets and were addressed as the “Ladies in Red”.

The ceremony began with the opening speech from the President Prof. Dato’ Dr. Andrew Mohanraj. He gave a touching speech thanking generous donors like Eu Yan-San represented by Dato Seri Anne, Selangor Properties, YTL, IWCKL and many more. They were each presented with a fruit basket in appreciation of their support. President Rani graciously accepted the fruit basket on behalf of IWCKL. A tour of the new Guest House was conducted and it was highlighted that MMHA still needs support and funds to furnish the Guest House.

Thereafter it was fellowship and lunch-time. IWCKL had enjoyed a day well spent, comforted by the knowledge that they had played a small and yet meaningful part in providing for those in need within the society.
