The ‘Bear of Hope’ project was launched on 23rd November, 2022 by the Inner Wheel Club of Pearl of the Orient (IWC Pearl of the Orient). This will be remembered as President Janet Chong’s maiden charity project which was inspired by her personal experience years ago, giving

care to a teenage boy who was battling lung cancer.

Realizing the physical, mental, and emotional suffering on a cancer

patient, especially at a young age, and not forgetting the struggles of the family, President Janet had shared her aspiration with Club Members and all agreed to give their full commitment to make the project work. It was decided that it should be an ongoing project for the club.

Members who attended the project on 15th December 2022 included President Janet Chong, Shirlynn, Ivee, Helen and Inge Eighty-five bears were handed over to the Radiotherapy Department of Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital.

The bears were given out to every child receiving radiotherapy treatment to cheer them up while going through their treatment. Every bear sourced came with a message from different donors who supported this project.

Apart from the bears, simple snack packs were also given to the patients and their family members at the waiting area. What’s worth mentioning is that this project also touched the heart of an adult patient.

This patient’s daughter supported the project and gave him a bear to accompany him when she could not be around, thus having a friend by his side always. IWC Pearl of the Orient has indeed done its part to Work Wonders with this noteworthy project.
