The above event was held on the 4th of Oct 2022 in the Auditorium of Hospital Ampang and was attended by Hospital and Klinik Kesihatan staff members, a total of 30 paediatric patients and their parents as well as pregnant mums from the community. It was jointly organised by the Paediatric/ Dietetic as well as the Obstetrics and Gynaecology departments of Hospital Ampang and this is the second such event this year.

This effort was a joint project of 2 Inner Wheel Clubs and each club had contributed RM500 each to Project Bengkel Pemakanan or Nutrition Workshop. The Inner Wheel Club of Kualal Lumpiur City Centre was represented by 3 members and the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur North sole representative was Diana Wong.

The Workshop started off as usual with a welcome speech from the Deputy Director of the Hospital and was followed by an interesting talk on the importance of proper nutrition for the babies as well as pregnant mums. It is hoped that this knowledge would empower mothers to provide the best possible nutrition for themselves and their children to optimise their child’s learning and growth potential.

There were also talks by the Paediatric Dietician from Hospital Kuala Lumpur that dealt with issues of picky eating amongst children. She gave lots of tips on how to deal with this problem. Her talk was followed by that of an Occupational Therapist from Hospital Ampang who had a hands-on session with the participants on feeding techniques.

The clown cheered the children and adults alike with balloon making and friendly banter all around. All the participants were given packed meals for the morning break as well as lunch. There was also a video on nutritious and easy recipes to prepare meals to occupy the participants during the intermission.

The Workshop ended with a Q & A session with the speakers. It was a good turnout overall and it was also very encouraging to see fathers accompanying mothers for this Workshop as it is hoped that fathers can support mothers in this endeavour.

It is hoped that the next event that will be organised, has a greater outreach among parents and staff members. IWC KL North wishes to record its great appreciation of its sister club the Inner Wheel Club of KLCC for their support in this event.
