Christmas Cheer for UNHCR Refugess in Kajang
Inner Wheel Club of Subang Selangor
24 December 2021
As the year 2021 comes to an end, it is the time to spread the cheer of giving and merry making. As in the previous year, IWC Subang, had a lovely Christmas Cheer with the Pakistani Refugees who come under the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees). There are about 25 families under this category who live in Kajang. Pastor Riaz runs a school and church in a shophouse for these refugees.
Their request for this season to IWCSS was a KFC meal for all. As the day 20th December was after the devastating floods that hit Klang, Shah Alam and parts of Kajang, there was some anxiety and apprehension whether good weather would prevail or otherwise.
The day turned out to a beautiful sunny morning and President Indira and some members headed to the Church. Susan, an IWC Subang member, painstakingly purchased and packed all the contributed presents for the children of varying ages.
The robust group of children sang carols both in English and Urdu (official language of the Pakistan) and showcased their singing skills for all present. A video of a Christmas carol in Urdu is hereby attached. All present then enjoyed the KFC meal.
Another year of waiting has gone by for these families and there is still no sight of asylum to another country which they can call home. They continue to live in hope.
