Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur
28 June 2021
The Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur embarked on several Water Poverty Challenge Projects in Inner Wheel year 2020-2021 for Orang Asli villages. One of the target beneficiaries was the village of Kg Leleh, Pahang.
Through the good offices of Dato’ CH Lee, son of District Extension Chairman Juanita Lee, the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur and SMGB Group Sdn Bhd jointly organised the construction of two drill wells initiated in the 3rd quarter of 2020 in Kg Leleh, Pahang.
On 4 January 2021, the two drilled wells were successfully constructed including its pump house and piping. They were handed over to the village with water tap stands installed and fully operational.
Subsequently, on 10 February 2021, IWCKL organised a collection of groceries with the help of some generous friends of PP Ooi Bee Ngor. The contributions received were packets of rice, chocolate, bottles of cooking oil, packets of sugar, can food, cartons of Julie’s biscuit, chocolate drinks, cartons of Sedap Instant noodle, cartons of sardines in tomato sauce. DEC Juanita and Dato’ CH Lee graciously delivered the groceries to the Orang Asli village.
The project was carried out in stages due to the numerous changes in Movement Control Order (MCO) implemented by the Malaysia government.
For the last stage of the project, 95 units of the water filters have been scheduled for delivery to the village once the Full Movement Control Order (FMCO) is lifted.
