The Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur completed the construction of wells within two months for three Orang Asli villages in the state of Pahang – Kampung Sekupang, Kampung Baret and Kampung Jabik. The project was made possible with the help of Mr John Chin, who has several years of experience in building wells.

The villagers provided the essential manpower for the basic construction of the wells. This strategy reduced costs. The cost of each well was RM3,500, which included building materials, well rings, water pipes, a pump and a 600 gallon water tank.

The output of water from each well is adequate for a cluster of 5 to 7 families in a village.  The water in each tank provides a constant supply of water for cooking, washing and agriculture.

This is indeed a very commendable project where many of the homes in these villages were able to enjoy clean water for their daily usage.  It is a far cry from the days when their only source was murky water pooled in muddy shallow water holes.

The joy of seeing the Orang Asli families benefiting from these wells has truly touched the hearts of the members of the Club. We pay tribute to President Caylize Sabado and District Extension Chairman Juanita Lee for coordinating and seeing the project through to success.
