With the completion of the three wells funded by the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur for the three indigenous villages, Kampung Sekupang, Kampung Baret and Kampung Jabik are now in an excellent position for the Club to implement sustainable farming to uplift their livelihood.

IWCKL assisted the Orang Asli women by introducing skills in environmentally sound and sustainable farming. They were empowered as the agents of change for fostering gender equality and care of the environment.

The project involved:-

  1. Supplying seedlings and seeds that are climatically suitable and economically viable.  Plants such as bananas, papaya, tapioca and ginger were either donated by members or sourced from friendly suppliers.
  2. Providing organic fertilisers to ensure that all the plants would grow well.
  3. Providing gardening know-how, instructions and guidance.
  4. Implementing a buy-back scheme (buying produce from the villagers) to support them economically.

The Club would like to thank the firm and steadfast efforts of President Caylize Sabado, District Extension Chairman Juanita and several members, who have contributed supplies of seedlings and seeds. Our sincere appreciation  to Mr John Chin, a friend of the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur, for helping to regularly distribute the fertiliser and seedlings to the villages.

Together we can LEAD THE CHANGE and make a better life for the under privilege.
