Second batch of over 1,000 face shields donated to protect and save lives
Inner Wheel Club of Ipoh East
7 May 2021
While the virus continued to tighten its grip with escalating COVID-19 cases, the Inner Wheel Club of Ipoh East continues to help the community by making and giving face shields especially to those exposed on a daily basis with numerous people.
Organising Chairman Mdm Gomathy Ramachandran, and few other IWCIE members and friends got together to make the face shields. Those who couldn’t stay on, took back the materials to make the face shields at home.
To date, 2,700 pieces have been made. It is a project that started in February by members during their free time and when we could gather under the movement control circumstances. The first batch was distributed last month. Feedback was good and that spurred our enthusiasm to continue.
The second batch of donations were 500 shields to the public health laboratory (Makmal Kesihatan Awam) of the Perak state health department (Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri) and 50 pcs to hawkers at food courts. In collaboration to redistribute to the needy, 100 pieces were given to Medical Supplies Sdn Bhd, 100 pieces to Edgenta Mediserve Sdn Bhd, and 850 pcs to three local churches in the Kinta district.
This is an ongoing project during this pandemic period.
