Bringing cheer to Dato' Dr Majumder, a Margarette Golding awardee and an old friend
Inner Wheel Club of Ipoh East
29 April 2021
Dato' Dr Madhuri Majumder is the Honorary Member of the Inner Wheel Club Ipoh East (IWCIE) and a recipient of the Margarette Golding Award. As one in her golden years, she is the epitome of what Inner Wheel members stand for. She is still active in serving the community and her heart is always filled with a spirit of love and friendship, undaunted by the challenges of ageing.
She has not been able to attend meetings of late, hence members and friends visit to bring her cheer.
On the evening of 29 April 2021, President Jaya Ranjitham Samuel and members of IWCIE paid Dato' Dr Majumder a visit to celebrate the 88th birthday. Dr Majumder was immensely pleased to have us.
We started the evening with cake-cutting. Members had brought along various dishes and it was a merry pot luck. After a lot of catching up with stories, we had games and everyone won "prizes".
Dato' Dr Majumder is known as a songbird and she joined us, singing in English, Malay, Tamil, Hindi and Japanese. Our incoming member, Jhenet, accompanied on the guitar. It was an evening serenading solo and as a choir. All the smartphones came to live clicking away to capture memories with Dr Majumder. The isolation and movement restrictions of the COVID-19 were all forgotten for the moment.
We also bought copies of the recently launched book by Dato' Dr Majumder, entitled “The Joy of Living". The proceeds of sale goes to the Perak Society for the Promotion of Mental Health, a home to ageing residents of mentally challenged women.
